Product description

Neem (Azadirachta indica) is an evergreen to semi-evergreen tree of the Meliaceae family. It is known for its tolerance to heat and drought, and is characterized by its dense compound leaves and oily fruits.

bark and stem

The trunk is straight and strong, and the bark is gray-brown to dark gray, rough and cracked with age, and may develop longitudinal grooves. The branches are spreading and bear a dense, broad crown.

General Description

The neem tree typically reaches a height of 10–20 meters, and may exceed this under suitable conditions. It has a wide, rounded, and dense crown, and is characterized by good growth rate and the ability to tolerate hot and dry conditions once established.

Papers

Its leaves are compound pinnate, relatively long, consisting of numerous leaflets with serrated edges, dark green and relatively glossy. The leaves may fall off partially during periods of drought or under seasonal conditions.

flowers

Its small, fragrant white flowers are gathered in branching, drooping, or lateral inflorescences. The flowers attract insects and pollinators.

Fruits and seeds

The fruits are oval to oblong, fleshy, and turn from green to yellow or greenish-yellow when ripe. The fruit usually contains one seed, sometimes more, and is rich in oil, which is used to extract neem oil.

Endurance and suitability

Once established, it tolerates heat and drought well, preferring direct sunlight and well-drained soil. It tolerates various soil types but does not tolerate extreme cold or frost.

Uses

Neem seeds are used to produce neem oil, which is an ingredient in many agricultural products, biopesticides, and personal care products. The tree is also used for landscaping, providing shade, and reducing soil degradation, and has extensive traditional uses in its native habitat.

Important note: Neem seeds and oil contain active compounds such as azadirachtin, and traditional use does not mean that consuming the seeds or crude oil is safe, especially for children, pregnant women, and animals. Therefore, do not use them internally without expert supervision.

natural spread

The neem tree is native to the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia, and was then widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions, including parts of the Arabian Peninsula.

Preservation status

Azadirachta indica is not a globally threatened species, and it is widely cultivated and used extensively in hot and dry regions.
