Course outline

  • Introduction to the environmental management system (EMS) and ISO 14001
  • Audit principles and the preparation for and initiation of an audit
  • On-site audit activities
  • Closing of the audit
  • Certification exam

Exam and credential pathway

The exam assesses EMS principles and ISO 14001 requirements together with audit preparation, execution, closure and audit-program management.

Passing the exam permits application for an eligible ISO 14001 Auditor credential. PECB's credential tiers have different professional-experience and EMS audit-hour requirements; passing does not automatically award the Lead Auditor credential.

Course completion, examination success, certification application and credential issuance are separate stages; the credential is not issued automatically.

For official course details, see the PECB ISO 14001 Lead Auditor page.
