شجرة العراد ذات قمة مستوية أو مستديرة في الأشجار المسنة وجذوعها سميكة وهي تنمو طبيعياً في جنوب غرب المملكة العربية السعودية عند سفوح الجبال المحاذية للساحل وكذلك في الأودية ذات الترب الحصوية الرملية وبالقرب من الحقول الزراعية شبه الصحراوية. وجذوع الشجرة متجعدة بنية والنورات هامية بيضاء. والأوراق والثمار ملساء، والثمار بنفسجية اللون محمرة لامعة طويلة. وهذا النوع له العديد من الأنواع في إفريقيا بأشواك مستقيمة أو منحنية ومنها ما يجمع بين هذين النوعين من الأشواك. وتعد أشجار العراد مصدراً ممتازاً للخشب وأخشاب الوقود. وأشجار العراد مقاومة للجفاف، كما أن لها أهمية في تنسيق المواقع ويمكن زراعتها بصورة كثيفة في مشاريع التنسيق بوصفها أشجاراً طبيعية متصلة.

The Arad tree has a flat or round top in old trees and thick stems. It grows naturally in southwestern Saudi Arabia at the foothills of the mountains adjacent to the coast, as well as in valleys with sandy gravel soils and near semi-desert agricultural fields. The tree trunks are wrinkled brown, and the inflorescences are white. The leaves and fruits are smooth, and the fruits are long, bright reddish-purple. This type has many types in Africa with straight or curved thorns, including what combines these two types of thorns. Arad trees are an excellent source of wood and fuel wood. Arad trees are drought-resistant. They are important in coordinating sites and can be extensively planted in coordination projects as connected natural trees.
