Product description

The importance of this book lies in that it will not only study dialogue from a narrative perspective but will also approach it from the angle that the traditional narrators consider the most, which is the pragmatic angle, and this is the focus of modern narrative studies; that is, verbal narratives. The book addresses the issue from four aspects: the first is the textual situation of the dialogue, through attention to methods of integrating it into the narration, its textual contexts, and its occasions. The second is the language of the dialogue in terms of its characteristics in itself, on one hand, and its relationship with the language of narration, on the other. The third is the structures of dialogue in the documented text, revealing its forms and patterns. The fourth is its strategies and functions. Throughout all this, the book aims to clarify the extent of the presence of dialogue in the Saudi novel, its particular way of dealing with it, and its exploitation of its energies to achieve creativity in the narrative text, as well as its potential to highlight its social, cultural, and psychological dimensions.
