Product description
Dr. Alexis Carrel was born near Lyon in France in 1873, and obtained a medical degree from this city, as well as a degree in sciences from Dijon. After studying and teaching in Lyon for several years, he traveled to the United States of America in 1905 and worked at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research in New York, where he remained for thirty years. He then retired and returned to France in 1939. Following his return to his homeland, the French Ministry of Health entrusted him with a special mission related to the war, which was a continuation of another similar mission he undertook during World War I when he worked as a surgeon with the French forces. He received recognition from the French, British, and American governments. Dr. Carrel was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1912 for his outstanding medical research. After retiring in 1939, he continued his research related to the "mechanical heart," which was said to be capable of sustaining life in body organs separated from the real heart for an indefinite period.
