A seasonal wild plant in winter from the poppy family, with a slender, tender stem about a meter long topped by a single flower. Its leaves are ovate with serrated edges covered with white hairs. The Daisy flower is distinguished by its bright red flowers, and it is one of the rare plants that have attracted people's interest in the Saudi Arabian desert. Many poets have sung about its beauty, including Muhammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sudairy in his famous poem "Yaqool Min 'Ada," in which he says:
When will our homes and the valleys be settled,
Green after being barren,
We see the Daisy flower shining like brocade with a narrow waist,
And it scatters on the ground the dew of the poor.
The Daisy flower: attracts attention with its intense red color, with large petals and a soft black spot in the middle.
Daisy seeds: very small round seeds about the size of sand grains, brownish-black in color.
Germination season: October and November are considered the best months for germinating Daisy seeds. It can also be cultivated in winter and spring, or in protected areas throughout the year.
Suitable climate and soil for cultivation: Daisy requires moderate weather between 15 - 28 degrees Celsius, light well-drained soil, and it does not tolerate high salinity.
How to cultivate Daisy: It is cultivated by seeds, either in plant containers and germination trays or directly in the ground. Since Daisy seeds are extremely tiny, it is better to mix 0.5 grams of seeds with 50 grams of sand to facilitate distribution. It should be watered regularly to prevent the soil from drying out during germination.
Its benefits and uses: Daisy flowers are cultivated for decoration in homes and private gardens as they are rare plants in the deserts. They also have medicinal uses.
Original habitat: Europe, North Africa, and some areas in Asia. They also appear during spring in the northern regions of Saudi Arabia.
