Olmesartan Medoxomil 20 mg – coated tablets Indications for use: Olmesartan belongs to the group of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), and works to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. It is used to treat high blood pressure in: Adults Children and adolescents aged 6 to less than 18 years Uncontrolled high blood pressure may lead to serious complications such as: Heart disease Kidney failure Stroke Eye damage And often no obvious symptoms of high pressure. Do not take olmesartan if: You are allergic to olmesartan medoxomil or any of the ingredients of the medication You have problems with bile drainage or jaundice You have diabetes or kidney dysfunction and are using a medication containing aliskiren Warnings and precautions: Tell your doctor before use if you have: Kidney diseases Liver diseases Heart failure or problems with heart valves or heart muscle Severe vomiting or diarrhea Use of high doses of diuretics Following a low-salt diet High potassium levels Adrenal gland problems Possible side effects: Most are mild, but may be serious in rare cases such as: Severe allergic reactions Sudden drop in blood pressure Other effects may include: Dizziness, headache, fatigue Nausea, indigestion, diarrhea, stomach pain Flu-like symptoms Cough, sore throat, nasal congestion or runny nose Chest, back, or joint pain Urinary tract infection Swelling in the limbs Blood in the urine Possible lab changes: Increased fats, uric acid, urea High potassium levels Elevated liver and muscle enzymes Thrombocytopenia Weakness or kidney failure (rare) In children: Dizziness and headache are more common Nasal bleeding is observed only in children Drug interactions: Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using: Other blood pressure medications Potassium supplements Lithium Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) Colesevelam (for lowering cholesterol) Some antacids Method of use and dosage: Use the medication exactly as directed by your doctor. Starting dose for adults: 10 mg once daily The dose may be increased to 20 or 40 mg depending on response. For patients with mild to moderate kidney issues: maximum 20 mg daily Can be taken with or without food. It is preferred to take it at the same time each day. Children (6–less than 18 years): Starting dose: 10 mg once daily May be increased to 20 or 40 mg. Children under 35 kg: maximum 20 mg daily Storage: Keep out of reach of children.
