The book in our hands discusses the effort of three writers who established modernist fiction in practice and application: a man (James Joyce) and two women (Virginia Woolf and Dorothy Richardson), and this indicates that women had the greater share in establishing modernist fiction and encouraging consideration of the status of women in society, a status based on marginalization and exclusion. This paved the way later for a major feminist movement that spread in the early twentieth century, which was most intense in the sixties and seventies and still produces literature, poetry, and politics to this day.
