"On the Shores of Fire," a massive anthology that includes selections of the most important poets from the indigenous peoples of the United States of America, chosen and translated from English by Osama Asber. And from what is written on the cover of the book, we read: My goal behind these selections is poetry and solidarity: my poetry because the poetry of poets from the indigenous peoples is diverse, deep, rich, and includes names spread across large geographical areas in the United States. And my solidarity because the peoples who possess their own culture, legends, and worldview have been annihilated, marginalized, targeted, fought, and had their land seized, placed in reservations, but they found in poetry a way to express this historical injustice they faced. And since the poetry of Native Americans, or the indigenous peoples of America, is unknown to the Arab world except through individual translations in magazines and newspapers, I decided to translate a large anthology to include the most important poetic voices of the indigenous peoples of the United States as a step of solidarity with their causes as oppressed peoples, and to celebrate their poetry as a rich and diverse creative achievement.
