Building the historical story at Al-Tabari a semiotic approach

Product description
This study is nothing but an attempt to explore an uncharted field that has not been previously studied in our Arab culture outside the narrow circle of specialists among historians. Our goal was only to participate in enriching this field by opening it to narrative approaches that have seen significant development and from which many human sciences have benefited, and we are now hearing about narratives of the natural sciences. However, what Gerard Genette contributed remains the greatest influence on subsequent artistic studies, while Greimas's semiotics had its effectiveness, extending to include many contemporary knowledge in the study of meaning, i.e., the form of content. Believing that one approach complements the other, we sought to benefit from both without forcing the studied material. Greimas's approach permeated most of the chapters through reliance on the semiotic square and what it offers in reconsidering the formation of the cognitive field in general, especially the formation of the studied historical text field. The overall framework of the research was guided by Paul Ricoeur, who considered narrative the fundamental component of human selfhood.
