Preferred soil for planting cactus: To grow cactus well, choose light, sandy, well-draining soil, and avoid heavy, clay soils that retain water, as well as nutrient-rich soils. Preferred location for planting cactus: Choose a warm, sunny spot, preferably elevated or sloped to allow better drainage. If the cactus is initially growing in the shade or indoors, it is recommended to gradually acclimate it, so as not to expose it immediately to direct sunlight. Start by placing it in the sun for a few hours daily, shading it during hot periods, before permanently placing it in the sun. Best time to plant cactus: Cactus is planted in spring, from mid-May or June, once the risk of severe cold has passed. How to water cactus: Water it only if the soil is dry; in summer, a little water once a week is sufficient. In winter, do not overwater the plant; avoid excessive watering, or the cactus will rot. Humidity will allow mold to grow and kill the cactus. Cactus diseases and their treatment: The main enemy of cactus is mold, which develops when humidity is very high. Treatment: Do not hesitate to prune the diseased parts of the plant to prevent the spread of infection. Scale insects and mites are also diseases that specifically affect cactus plants. To avoid attacks of these pests and diseases on cacti, add some fertilizer, improve soil fertility, and activity.
