Why is Fluoxetine used: Fluoxetine is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia nervosa (eating disorder), and panic attacks. Do not take Fluoxetine: If you have an allergy to the active ingredients or any other components of this medication. If you are taking any of the following drugs: Pimozide or Thioridazine. If you have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors in the past two weeks. Precautions and warnings: Inform your doctor about all your health conditions, including if you have: If you have liver or kidney problems. If you have heart problems including QT prolongation. If you have seizures or epilepsy. If you have bipolar disorder or mania. If you have low sodium levels in the blood. If you have a history of stroke. If you have high blood pressure. If you have or have had bleeding problems. If you have eye problems. This medication may cause suicidal thoughts, especially in young people, during the first months of treatment. Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms. Do not suddenly stop taking this medication. You may experience side effects. Talk to your doctor about how to stop taking Fluoxetine. Possible side effects: Stop using this product and seek immediate medical care if you develop a rash; itching; red, ulcerated, or peeling skin; chest or throat tightness; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency of these side effects is unknown. Serious side effects: Suicidal thoughts or actions, especially initially. Fluoxetine interacts with linezolid, methylene blue, triptan medications, antidepressants or anxiety medications, amphetamines, phenytoin, tramadol, anticoagulants like warfarin, and electroconvulsive therapy. How to take Fluoxetine: This medication is intended for adults over 18 years. Your doctor may prescribe it for children aged 8 and above if necessary. Take this medication as prescribed by your doctor. For depression and OCD, the usual starting dose is 20 mg once daily. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose. For bulimia nervosa, the recommended dose is 60 mg once daily. For children aged 8 and above, the usual starting dose is 10-20 mg once daily.
