What is Polycresolin and its indications for use: Polycresolin is a multi-concentrate product of Metacresol Sulfonic Acid and Formaldehyde. It is used to treat local infections or inflammation and tissue damage of the vagina and cervix, such as: discharges caused by bacterial infections, trichomoniasis, fungal infections. Pressure ulcers resulting from fistula. Fistula tumor. Protrusion of the cervical mucosa (cervical ectopia). Do not use Polycresolin: if you are allergic to Polycresolin or any of its components. Precautions and warnings: During treatment with Polycresolin, sexual intercourse should be avoided for 10 days. During treatment, avoid using irritating soap. Polycresolin is not effective against HIV infection or other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea or syphilis. Do not use Polycresolin during menstruation. Possible side effects of Polycresolin: Like all medicines, Polycresolin may cause side effects, although they do not occur in everyone. Sometimes, local irritation may be observed at the beginning of treatment with Polycresolin, but it usually subsides quickly. The following adverse effects have been reported: vaginal dryness. Urticaria. Systemic allergic reactions (such as angioedema or generalized urticaria) and even hypersensitivity. Vaginal candidiasis. Itching of the vulva. Discharge of mucous membrane pieces. Discomfort. Feeling of a foreign body in the vagina. Other medications and Polycresolin: During treatment with Polycresolin, avoid concurrent use of other vaginal medications, as interactions cannot be ruled out. How to use Polycresolin for vaginal use: The suppository should be inserted deep into the vagina, preferably in a lying position. To prevent the suppository from falling out, it is preferable to use it at night before sleep. To facilitate insertion, the suppository can be moistened with water. To prevent staining clothes and bedding, it is recommended to use sanitary pads. Unless otherwise specified: one vaginal suppository is used every two days. Special notes: Polycresolin stimulates the healing process, and there is no reason to worry when dead tissue, even in large quantities, exits from the affected area. Like any other vaginal medication, Polycresolin should not be used during menstruation. How to store Polycresolin: Keep out of reach of children.
