Active ingredient Valsartan (at different concentrations) Valsartan belongs to the group of angiotensin II receptor blockers used to treat high blood pressure. Angiotensin II is a substance that causes blood vessels to constrict, thus increasing pressure. Valsartan works to prevent the effects of angiotensin II, leading to vessel relaxation and lowering pressure. Uses by concentration Valsartan 40 mg – coated tablets Used to treat: High blood pressure in children and adolescents 6–18 years. Adults after a heart attack (from 12 hours to 10 days after injury). Incidental heart failure in adults, especially when ACE inhibitors cannot be used or used together when needed. Symptoms of heart failure include: Shortness of breath Swelling of the feet and legs due to fluid accumulation Weakness of the heart's ability to pump blood Valsartan 80 mg – coated tablets Used to treat: High blood pressure in adults and children 6–18 years. Reducing the risk of stroke, heart failure, kidney failure caused by untreated pressure. Adults after a heart attack. Incidental heart failure in adults. Valsartan 160 mg – coated tablets Used to treat: High blood pressure in adults and children 6–18 years. Adults after a heart attack. Incidental heart failure. Valsartan 320 mg – coated tablets Used for: Treating high blood pressure in adults and children and adolescents 6–18 years. Usage instructions Use the medication exactly as prescribed by the doctor to achieve the best results and reduce side effects. High blood pressure is often asymptomatic, so medical reviews must be adhered to. Doses Adults – High blood pressure Recommended dose: 80 mg daily. The doctor may increase the dose to 160 mg or 320 mg. Can be combined with a diuretic. Children and adolescents (6–<18 years) Less than 35 kg: Starting dose: 40 mg once daily. 35 kg or more: Starting dose: 80 mg once daily. Dose may be increased to 160 or 320 mg. Oral solution is recommended for those who cannot swallow tablets. After a heart attack (adults) Treatment begins after 12 hours with a dose of 20 mg twice daily (half of a 40 mg tablet). The dose is gradually increased to 160 mg twice daily based on tolerance. It can be used with other treatments for a heart attack. Heart failure (adults) Initial dose: 40 mg twice daily. Dose is gradually increased to 160 mg twice daily. Dose is determined according to patient tolerance. Can be taken with or without food, swallowed with a glass of water, and at the same time daily. In case of overdose Contact the doctor, emergency, or poison information. When feeling severe dizziness or near loss of consciousness: lie down and contact the doctor immediately. If a child has taken the medication, treat it as a medical emergency. In case of missed dose Take the dose when remembered. If the next dose is close, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose. Stopping the medication Sudden discontinuation may worsen the problem. Do not stop treatment except under the doctor's guidance. Warnings and precautions Do not use valsartan if you are: Allergic to valsartan or any component. Having severe liver disease. Pregnant for three months or more. Diabetic or with severe kidney impairment and taking an antihypertensive treatment containing aliskiren.
