Product description: What is Montelukast: Montelukast is one of the leukotriene receptor antagonists that prevents a group of substances called leukotrienes. How Montelukast works: Leukotrienes cause constriction and swelling in the airways in the lungs. By preventing leukotriene, Montelukast improves asthma symptoms and helps control asthma. Leukotriene also causes allergy symptoms. Preventing leukotriene improves seasonal allergy symptoms (also known as hay fever or seasonal allergic rhinitis). Usage instructions: Always use this medication exactly as your doctor told you. Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Montelukast should not be used with other medicines containing the same active ingredient, Montelukast. Montelukast should be taken even if the disease is under control, and during periods of exacerbation (asthma attacks). Using Montelukast in children from 6 to 14 years old: The dose is determined by the doctor who adjusts it for you or your child. The recommended dose for asthma and/or seasonal allergy is one 5 mg chewable tablet once daily. For asthma patients, take Montelukast once daily in the evening. For those with seasonal allergies, Montelukast should be taken once daily as directed by the doctor. This medication should be taken orally. Chew the 5 mg tablets before swallowing. If the chewable tablet is taken with food, it should be taken one hour before or two hours after eating. Using Montelukast in adults and adolescents over 15 years: The dose is determined by the doctor who adjusts it for you. The recommended dose for asthma and/or seasonal allergy is one 10 mg tablet once daily. For asthma patients, take Montelukast once daily in the evening. For those with seasonal allergies, take Montelukast once daily as directed by the doctor. This medication should be taken orally. The 10 mg tablets can be swallowed with a little water, and can be taken alone or with food. If you or your child take too much Montelukast: Contact your doctor immediately for advice. Most overdose reports indicate no side effects. The most common symptoms reported in adults and children with an overdose are stomach pain, drowsiness, thirst, headache, vomiting, and hyperactivity. If you forget to take Montelukast or give it to your child: Try to take or give Montelukast as prescribed. However, if you or your child miss a dose, just continue with the usual dose of one tablet daily. Do not take or give a double dose to make up for the missed one. If you or your child stop treatment with Montelukast: Montelukast can only treat your or your child's asthma or allergy as long as you or your child continue taking it. It is important to continue taking Montelukast as prescribed by your doctor. It will help you control your or your child's asthma and allergies. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about using this medication. Warnings and precautions: Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you or your child use Montelukast: If your or your child's asthma or breathing worsens, contact your doctor immediately.
