Why is Febuxostat used: Febuxostat is used to lower uric acid levels in the blood in patients with gout. It is used as a chronic treatment for gout. Febuxostat is also used to treat and prevent high levels of uric acid in the blood in patients with leukemia undergoing chemotherapy. Do not take Febuxostat: If you are allergic to the active ingredient or any other components of this medicine. If you are taking any of the following drugs: Azathioprine or Mercaptopurine. Precautions and warnings: Inform your doctor about all your health conditions, including if: You have liver or kidney problems. You have heart problems or a history of heart disease or stroke. You are undergoing cancer treatment or have a condition called Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. You may experience more gout attacks after starting this medication, and you should not stop using it. Patients with heart diseases taking this medicine are at higher risk of death from heart problems compared to those taking Allopurinol. You may experience liver problems after using this medicine. Possible side effects: Stop using this medicine and seek immediate medical care if you develop symptoms such as: Rash or itching. Skin redness, ulcers, or peeling. Chest or throat tightness.
