Azithromycin is an antibiotic from the macrolide group, used to treat the following bacterial infections: - Chest, throat, or nose infections. - Ear infections. - Skin and soft tissue infections. - Some sexually transmitted diseases. Do not take Azithromycin if you have an allergy to Azithromycin or any antibiotic from the macrolide family such as erythromycin or clarithromycin. Have had an allergic reaction such as rash or wheezing after using this type of antibiotics. Precautions and warnings Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Azithromycin if you have or have had: - Kidney problems. - Heart diseases. - Liver problems. - Myasthenia gravis. Possible side effects Tell your doctor immediately if any of the following symptoms appear, as they may be serious: - Sudden wheezing or difficulty breathing. - Swelling of the eyelids, face, or lips. - Severe or persistent rash or itching. - Severe or ongoing diarrhea. - Rapid or irregular heartbeat. - Low blood pressure. Other medications and Azithromycin Azithromycin may interact with some medications; inform your doctor if you are using: - Ergot or ergotamine. - Warfarin. - Cyclosporine. - Antacids. - Digoxin. - Colchicine. - Terfenadine. How to take Azithromycin Adult and children over 45 kg: 500 mg once daily for 3 days. Take as directed by your doctor, and do not stop the treatment before completing the prescribed duration.
