What is Rosuvastatin and its indications for use: Rosuvastatin is used to correct blood lipid levels called fats, and the most famous of which is cholesterol. Different types of cholesterol exist in the blood, "bad" cholesterol and "good" cholesterol. Rosuvastatin can reduce "bad" cholesterol and increase "good" cholesterol. It works by helping to prevent the body from producing "bad" cholesterol. Do not take Rosuvastatin: If you have ever had an allergic reaction to Rosuvastatin or any of its components. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have liver disease. If you have serious kidney problems. If you experience pain or recurrent or unexplained muscle pain. If you are taking a group of drugs Sovaldi / Vepatasevir / Voxelaprevir. If you are taking a drug called Cyclosporine. Warnings and precautions: Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Rosuvastatin if: You have kidney problems. You have liver problems. You experience recurrent or unexplained muscle pain, or have a personal or family history of muscle problems. You regularly drink large amounts of alcohol. Your thyroid gland does not function properly. You are taking other medications called fibrates to lower cholesterol. You are taking medications to treat HIV infection. You have taken or are taking in the past seven days Fosfomycin. You are over 70 years old. You suffer from severe respiratory failure. You are of Asian origin (Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, Indian). Possible side effects of Rosuvastatin: include headache, stomach pain, constipation, nausea, muscle pain, feeling weak, dizziness, diabetes, skin rash, itching or other skin reactions, and increased protein in the urine, and this usually resolves on its own without the need to stop the medication. Other medications and Rosuvastatin: inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following: Cyclosporine. Warfarin or Clopidogrel or any blood-thinning medication. Fibrates such as Gemfibrozil or Fenofibrate, or other cholesterol-lowering drugs like Ezetimibe. Indigestion treatments. Erythromycin or Fosfomycin. Oral contraceptives. Rivaroxaban or Daratumumab. Hormone replacement therapy. Any other medications used to treat viral infections. How to take Rosuvastatin: Usual doses in adults: For high cholesterol: the starting dose is 5 mg or 10 mg, and the choice of dose depends on cholesterol level, risk of heart attack or stroke, and the likelihood of side effects. Your doctor may decide to start with 5 mg if: you are of Asian origin. you are over 70 years old. you have moderate kidney problems. you are at risk of muscle pain. Dose increase and maximum daily dose: your doctor may gradually increase the dose until reaching the appropriate dose. The maximum daily dose of Rosuvastatin is 40 mg. To reduce the risk of heart attacks or strokes: the recommended dose is 20 mg daily, and a lower dose may be used depending on the case. Children and adolescents (6–17 years): doses range from 5 to 20 mg once daily, and the maximum dose depends on the condition being treated.
