Ethinyl Estradiol / Levonorgestrel tablets What is Ethinyl Estradiol / Levonorgestrel and its uses: Ethinyl Estradiol / Levonorgestrel is a medicine used as a combined oral contraceptive pill taken by mouth to prevent pregnancy. These pills contain two types of female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, and work together to prevent pregnancy through several mechanisms, including preventing ovulation from the ovary, increasing the thickness of cervical mucus to hinder sperm access, and preventing the lining of the uterus from preparing for implantation of the egg. The pills are taken daily without interruption, with the active tablets taken for 21 days, followed by a period of inactive tablets for 7 days.
