What are the reasons for using Omeprazole
Omeprazole belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. These medicines work by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
Omeprazole is used to treat the following conditions
In adults
Gastroesophageal reflux disease, where stomach acid leaks into the esophagus causing pain, inflammation, and heartburn.
Ulcers in the upper part of the intestines or stomach.
Ulcer infected with Helicobacter pylori bacteria.
Ulcer caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Prevention of ulcer formation when using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Increased stomach acid secretion due to pancreatic growth (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome).
In children
Children over the age of one year and weighing 10 kg or more:
Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, symptoms may include stomach contents returning to the mouth, vomiting, and poor weight gain.
Children and adolescents over the age of 4 years:
Treatment of ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori bacteria.
Do not take Omeprazole
If you are allergic to Omeprazole or any ingredients of this medicine.
If you are allergic to other medicines containing proton pump inhibitors.
Precautions and warnings
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Omeprazole.
Omeprazole may hide symptoms of other diseases.
Contact your doctor immediately if any of the following occur before or during use of the medicine:
Unexplained weight loss or difficulty swallowing.
Persistent stomach pain or indigestion.
Vomiting food or blood.
Passing black or bloody stools.
Severe or persistent diarrhea.
Serious liver problems.
If you are going to undergo a specific blood test (Chromogranin A).
Using proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole for more than a year may slightly increase the risk of fractures (hip, wrist, spine).
Tell your doctor if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Omeprazole may cause side effects, but not everyone experiences them.
Stop using the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if severe allergic symptoms or signs of liver problems appear.

Omeprazole may affect how some medicines work, and some medicines may affect Omeprazole.
Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines used to treat:
Fungal infections
Heart diseases
Angina
Seizures
Tuberculosis
HIV infection
Organ transplants
Mild depression
Blood clots
Cancer
How to take Omeprazole
Take the medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist told you.
The doctor will determine the number of capsules and the duration of treatment based on your condition and age.
It is recommended to take the capsules in the morning.
They can be taken with food or on an empty stomach.
Swallow the capsule whole with half a glass of water.
Do not chew or crush the capsules, as they contain coated granules that protect the medicine from stomach acid.
It is important not to damage these granules.
How to store Omeprazole
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use after the expiration date printed on the package.
Do not store above 30°C.
Store in the original container or tightly closed to protect from moisture.
