Ozempic® is a prescription medication, used by injection under the skin once weekly, containing the active ingredient semaglutide. It is used: with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. To reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as: heart attack, stroke, cardiovascular death in patients with type 2 diabetes with known heart disease. Important information: Not used for type 1 diabetes. Its safety and effectiveness in children under 18 are unknown. It is also unknown if it is suitable for patients with a history of pancreatitis. How to use: Used according to doctor’s instructions only. Injected under the skin (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm). Not used intravenously or intramuscularly. Warnings and precautions: Do not use Ozempic® if you have: allergy to semaglutide or any of the ingredients. Tell your doctor before use if you have: or have had problems with the pancreas or kidneys. Have a history of diabetic retinopathy. Mother, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy. Ozempic® should be stopped two months before planning pregnancy. Using other medications for diabetes, especially: insulin, sulfonylureas. Possible side effects: Ozempic® may cause serious side effects, including: pancreatitis, severe and persistent abdominal pain that may extend to the back with or without vomiting, vision changes, low blood sugar (risk increases when used with insulin or sulfonylureas). Symptoms include: dizziness, sweating, hunger, shivering, rapid heartbeat, confusion, kidney problems, especially with vomiting or diarrhea and fainting, severe allergic reactions, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe skin rash or fainting.
