Sefixim 100 mg / 5 ml is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, taken orally, characterized by bactericidal effectiveness against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is used to treat acute infections caused by sensitive microorganisms, including: upper respiratory tract infections such as otitis media, especially when resistant to common antibiotics or in cases where treatment failure may lead to complications. Lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis. Urinary tract infections such as cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis without complications. What you need to know before using Sefixim: Do not use Sefixim if: - You are allergic to Sefixim or any of its components. - You have a known allergy to cephalosporin or penicillin medications. Precautions and warnings: - Dose adjustment is necessary according to the degree of renal impairment. - Sefixim may increase the risk of encephalopathy (including seizures, confusion, decreased consciousness, and movement disorders), especially in cases of overdose or renal impairment. - It may cause acute kidney failure in rare cases. - It may give false positive results in urine glucose tests using Benedict or Fehling solutions. - Direct Coombs test may show a false positive during treatment. Other medications and Sefixim: - Regular monitoring of prothrombin time is required when using Sefixim concurrently with warfarin. How to use Sefixim: - Taken orally. - The usual treatment duration is 7 days, which may extend up to 14 days based on the doctor's assessment. Doses: - Adults and children over 10 years or weighing more than 50 kg: 200–400 mg daily depending on the severity of the infection, as a single dose or divided into two doses. - Elderly: same as adult dose, with kidney function assessment and dose adjustment if needed. - Children under 10 years: tablets are not recommended; the suspension form is preferred based on the doctor's judgment. The safety and efficacy of the medication have not been established for children under 6 months.
