How does a compressor work?
The compressor is the heart of the air conditioner: it draws in the refrigerant gas, compresses it, and sends it to the condenser (front radiator) to convert it from gas to liquid… and then the cooling cycle inside the car begins. Therefore, if the compressor is worn out, your cooling system will suffer as well.
Symptoms of compressor damage
- Poor cooling during hot weather or in crowded areas
- A clicking/scraping sound when the air conditioner is turned on
- The air conditioner cools down, then slows down or shuts off.
- Oil/Freon leak around the compressor (after technical inspection)
Installation advice
When changing the compressor, the technician must check the system :
Filter/refrigerant/valve + Check that there is no "refrigerant" inside the system. Because the refrigerant could return and damage the new compressor.
