The importance of German agricultural peat moss for plants
- Improving soil structure: It loosens heavy (clay) soils and helps sandy soils retain water.
- Strong roots: Good ventilation around the roots is encouraged, which prevents rotting and stimulates growth.
- Higher nutrient absorption: It acts as a food sponge, releasing nutrients gradually.
- Increase soil fertility: It adds the organic matter necessary for the activity of beneficial soil microbes.
- Reducing water stress: This reduces the number of irrigations, especially in hot regions.

- To prepare the planting mix (pots and nurseries): Mix peat moss with perlite or vermiculite in a ratio of 3:1 to improve drainage, and add sand or garden soil at a ratio of 20% if the plant does not prefer very light soil.
- To improve the soil (fields and gardens): Spread peat moss on the soil surface at a rate of 5-10 liters per square meter, and mix it into the soil to a depth of 15-20 cm a week before planting.
- As an organic cover (mulch): Spread a 2-3 cm thick layer around the base of the plants to retain moisture and prevent weeds.
- Re-moistening dry peat moss: If it is too dry, gradually add water while stirring until it becomes moist like a wrung-out sponge.
