A brief about the book "The Triumph of Religion" - Jacques Lacan: Lacan once said about himself: "I am the product of the priests." He was educated by the Marian Brothers (or Little Brothers of Mary), and was a pious child and gained a great personal knowledge of sufferings and Christian spiritual tricks. He was wonderfully able to speak to Catholics and bring them to psychoanalysis. Jesuits flocked to his school. Freud, who was an advocate of old-fashioned optimistic Enlightenment, believed that religion was just an illusion that the progress of the scientific spirit would dispel in the future. Lacan did not share this belief at all: he believed, on the contrary, that true religion, Roman Catholicism, would eventually encompass everyone, and pour buckets full of meaning onto the more urgent and unbearable reality that we are in, in our lives.
