The greatest matters of danger and value, and the most wonderful in benefit and support, are what establish religion and worldly life, and organize the righteousness of the Hereafter and the first life, because with the uprightness of religion, worship is correct, and with the righteousness of the world, happiness is achieved. And this book aims to point to their manners, detailing what is most beautiful of their states, on the fairest of two matters: conciseness and elaboration, combining the accuracy of the jurists and the refinement of the literati, so it is neither beyond understanding nor too subtle for the mind, citing from the Book of Allah, glory be to Him, what it necessitates, and from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, what corresponds to it, then following that with the sayings of the wise, the manners of the eloquent, and the words of poets, because hearts are comforted by different arts and become weary of a single art. And Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Hearts get tired just as bodies do, so guide them to the pearls of wisdom." The author divided his book into five chapters. The first chapter: in a section, and the blame of desire. The second: in the manners of knowledge. The third: in the manners of religion. The fourth: in the manners of the world.
