Overview of Diwan Ibn Al-Farid: He is Abu Hafs Sharaf al-Din Omar bin Ali bin Murshid Al-Hamawi, considered one of the most famous Sufi poets, so he dedicated all his poetry to divine love, and for this reason he was nicknamed Sultan of the Lovers. His father belonged to the city of Hama in Syria, who later migrated from it to Egypt, where Ibn Al-Farid was born. He was born in the year 576 AH and died in 632 AH. When he grew up, he started working in the Hanafi jurisprudence and took hadith from Ibn Asakir, then he soon followed the Sufi path and turned towards asceticism. He intended to travel to Mecca outside the months of Hajj, where he secluded himself in a distant valley from Mecca. Through this isolation, he composed many of his poems about divine love. He eventually settled in Egypt after an absence of about fifteen years. It is worth noting that he is also nicknamed Ibn Al-Farid because his father worked as a Fard (a person who enforces religious duties), and a Fard is one who imposes religious duties on women for men. Through this article, we will get to know more about Ibn Al-Farid.
