The six texts that we present to the reader are among the most beautiful and complete works written by Maupassant, and they take the theme of tension of transformation, or disturbance of transition, from one state to another. By choosing these works, and by presenting the texts accompanied by a collection of classical images, we do not only hope to offer the reader a model of Maupassant's works and fantastic literature (fantasy literature), but also a book a delight to look at. I simply say that Maupassant's works are immortal in the true sense of the word, I am confident that they will transcend the ages, and establish their author as one of the great masters of the art of storytelling.
