About Diwan Al-Khansa: Al-Khansa is Tamatar bint Amr bin Al-Harith bin Al-Sharid, and Al-Khansa is a nickname that prevailed over her, and she was nicknamed so because of her resemblance to the wild cow in the beauty of her eyes. It is known that Al-Khansa was among the recognized poets of the Arabs who excelled, as all poets and ancient poetry narrators agreed that no woman before her or after her was more poetic in elegy, and she was considered second to none. At first, Al-Khansa used to recite poetry rarely, until her brothers Muawiya and Sakhr were killed, and she stored a deep grief for them, especially for Sakhr, as he was the most beloved to her, due to his patience, generosity, leadership in his tribe, bravery, and handsome face. Her grief opened the floodgates of her poetic talent, and she poured out poetry that was the sighs of a passionate soul, the breaths of a suffering chest from grief, and tears from a wounded heart. The reader of this poetry and her sighs will notice the simplicity of its meanings, its repetition, its exaggeration in describing her sorrow, and her brother Sakhr’s virtues. Her poetry is beloved, close to hearts, filled with sincere, burning emotion of longing, and true brotherly loyalty. This book contains within its folds the Diwan of Al-Khansa, arranged alphabetically, titled with headings derived from the poem itself, and explained in a simple and easy style that ensures the reader understands all the meanings Al-Khansa intended in her poetry, which is predominantly of an elegiac nature mixed with pride.
