About the book, every poet who dies leaves behind a mistress, or a beloved, or a woman he confides his secrets to, and leaves her a fragment of his works, his letters, and his poems. In "Spurned Papers" Henry James invents the character of the poet Geoffrey Spurned who was the center of attention and occupied people's minds in his lifetime, but he died early. However, his death does not pass unnoticed, as an American publisher, driven by curiosity, seeks to uncover the secrets of papers he learned from his friends that the distinguished poet deposited with his mistress, who at that time was in the decline of age and lives behind walls of forgetfulness with her niece in Venice. The events accelerate, most of which take place in Venice, and we witness heated dialogues in literature, culture, and social life between the publisher – who is the narrator with no name – and the old mistress of the palace. Year of publication 2021. Written by Henry James. Translated by Mahdi Suleiman. Publisher: Jadal Publications. Number of pages: 154.
