Product description

The word "revolution" in the title of this book is intended to refer to the contemporary term commonly used by people and its settled meanings today in their minds, not the old negative concept of this word. I aimed to clarify the semantic shift of this word so that there would be no perceptual contradiction between the modern meaning and the old connotations of this word. For me, revolution does not include the movement of the Free Officers' seizure of power in Egypt in 1952 and the subsequent similar military coups in other Arab and Islamic countries. Instead, my focus is on that popular movement that recently emerged spontaneously in the squares, in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, and Yemen. It does not include what is currently happening in Syria, except for what happened there in the early days, specifically in "Latakia" in the north and in Daraa in the south. As for what followed later across Syria, in my view, it goes beyond the concept of revolution into other meanings that can be called by different names, including: armed jihad, forcible seizure of power, Islamists' opportunism, and an attempt to link Syria to the miserable Iraqi situation.
