A brief about the book Qistās al-Bayān: The آثار of the scholar, the researcher, the poet, the critic, Ahmed Al-Zain, and his lost collection - Abdulrahman Qaed: This is a book that should have appeared more than eighty years ago, by a writer known to his contemporaries as a poet of a distinguished caliber, a skillful critic, a witty narrator, a talented researcher, and a literary figure who fills the ears of the world and the eyes of the days. Then he passed away as the dawn planets pass—light and swift, with faint illumination. People forgot most of what they knew about him, and he fell from the pages of history, unnoticed by passersby. Little remained in the hands of readers but a name on the cover of a heritage book they pass by and ignore, and verses of his noble poetry recited by narrators from narrators who do not mention him, along with some obscure, forgotten studies worn out by time. Then nothing remained but complete silence and distant absence. I revived in him the آثار of the world, the narrator, the poet, the researcher, and the critic Ahmed Al-Zain, may Allah have mercy on him, including fifty pure essays on literature, criticism, and refined rhetoric, eight high introductions to his investigations, and about four hundred and twenty verses absent from his published collection. I also presented a comprehensive and unique study about him—an independent book that fairly recognizes him, fulfills some rights owed to him, and serves as a reference for anyone who wishes to know him closely, and as a pleasure for those who wish to glance at the history of literature in the first half of the last century in Egypt. And if "whoever chronicles a believer, it is as if he has revived him," as Abu al-Abbas al-Mayuri says, then I believe that whoever chronicled and revived his آثار has immortalized his memory.
