The Pearl

Overview of the book The Pearl: Kino was a poor diver, like his father and grandfather before him, collecting pearls from the Gulf floor that once brought great wealth to the kings of Spain, and now provides Kino, his wife Juana, and their infant son with a humble livelihood. Then, on an ordinary day, Kino comes out of the sea with a large pearl the size of a seagull's egg, and "completely huge like the moon." And with this pearl comes hope, and a promise of comfort and security. An inspiring classic story, inspired by a Mexican folk tale, explores "The Pearl" the secrets of human nature, greed, the deepest depths of evil, and the luminous potential of love.
