I wonder: this writing suspended between two lives, where does it take me? I stare at the white screen. Slowly my fingers move to press the keys, composing my story and her story. I stop as if at a crossroads. I contemplate. I know that "Shajar" now, in this moment I sit to write, is walking alone in the streets. An amazing blend offered by Radwa Ashour in this enjoyable novel. As she here addresses shades of her autobiography in conjunction with the story of "Shajar" who accompanied her from the beginning to the end, in a narrative with high flexibility, allowing the writer the freedom to write different stories from her personal, family, literary, and university history, as she soars high when she reveals the background of all that through political and social events that shape the features of the Arab face in the second half of the twentieth century.
