Overview of the Diwan of Abi Firas Al-Hamdani: Abu Firas Al-Harith bin Saeed bin Hamdan Al-Hamdani, traces his lineage to Taghlib and his maternal lineage to Tamim, as he mentions in his poetry. It is said that he was born in Mosul, and his father Al-Harith nourished him and nicknamed him Abu Firas, meaning "the Lion," and he did not disappoint his father's expectations as he was one of the few distinguished knights. Abu Firas was raised as an orphan, embraced by his mother, and cared for by his cousin Saif Al-Dawla, Nasser Al-Dawla's brother. The poetry of Abu Firas, which is the subject of this book, is emotional and expresses his personality—an honest, proud, brave man, sincere in affection, loving his mother and honoring her, loving his children and homeland, loyal to his cousin Saif Al-Dawla. He was Shia and composed three poems about the Ahl al-Bayt, which are among his most beautiful works, expressing his attachment to them and his pain over their injustices, demonstrating his loyalty to them. Abu Firas also infused Arabic poetry with a new emotional tone, which he composed while a prisoner—an unprecedented style characterized by sincere feelings, realistic imagery, lamentation, and pain. This style is what secured his literary immortality. This edition has been reviewed based on the manuscript from the Al-Abdaliya Sadqiya Library in Tunis, copied in the year 548 AH.
