Overview of the book "Tawq al-Hamama" - Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi: The book addresses matters of love, its qualities, conditions, circumstances, meanings, and symptoms, from the perspectives of both genders, and expands on its philosophy, and what lovers and beloveds suffer from, of various kinds of torment, blame, deprivation, pain, abandonment, and separation, and what they enjoy from the fragrance of moments of meeting, the pleasure of union, and the bliss of gathering. Ibn Hazm explained his subject from his personal experiences, from trustworthy news, and from observing his society, its customs, and traditions, and the stories of narrators, including his research on proverbs, anecdotes, poetry, stories, engaging comments, and current events of his time, attaching to his words every meaning that captures the reader's attention and keeps away the spirit of boredom, with a focus that attracts and holds attention. As if the author approaches the philosophy of love from a psychological perspective, clarifying passions, emotions, feelings, innate senses, human sentiments, and the dominion of the self and the spirit that beats in hearts and controls the minds of lovers and beloveds, stirring in them various kinds of longing, anxiety, anticipation, and eagerness. Ibn Hazm exploited human innate feelings and emotions to present them to us in a pure, diverse form; he describes the qualities of the ideal beloved in light of customs, values, morals, and religion, and despises the libertine beloved, the vile behavior far from the pleasure of Allah, as if in his work he guides our inclinations and passions in love and passion to follow the correct path that leads to glorious meeting, elevating the philosophy of love to a noble level.
