Information about Kleeja:
Kleeja is an old popular product, made in different shapes, and its original homeland is the Qassim region in Saudi Arabia, which hosts an annual festival.
Qassim women excelled in preparing Kleeja, contributing to the fame of this golden disk with a distinctive taste. It is considered one of the best homemade foods made by elderly women.
Women also innovated in marketing Kleeja in a modern civilized way through various social networks like Instagram and Twitter, and delivering Kleeja in tin packages through fast delivery companies. (Source below the page)
Ancestors' Kleeja:
Kleeja was a main meal in the homes of the affluent and wealthy in Qassim. It was among the most expensive gifts given to friends or visitors from outside Qassim.
It was also a fundamental part of the gifts prepared for a bride when she moves to her husband's house, a tradition still maintained by some to this day. (Source below the page)
Why is it called Kleeja?
Regarding the reason for the name Kleeja, there are several stories and sayings about its origin.
The first opinion is that the word (Kleeja) is a distortion of the word (Kaleesha), which is the wooden tool that contains the printed engravings on the Kleeja disk.
The second, more strange opinion, which raised many questions among enthusiasts of folk heritage, is that the origin of the word Kleeja dates back to an old story about stingy farmers.
This farmer allowed his family, consisting of his wife and daughter, to eat only two meals a day (lunch and dinner). The girl would feel hungry during the day, so the mother would quickly prepare a disk for her and say to her, "Eat it, your father is coming" so her father wouldn't see her.
Over time, the phrase was shortened to "Kleeja ja, Kleeja ja," before the name "Kleeja" appeared.
However, the validity of this story is uncertain. (Source below the page)
