Overview

The North Riyadh Geopark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a geological treasure and a living museum. It aims to promote scientific research, sustainable tourism, and a global understanding of geology. A key component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, it focuses particularly on agriculture, water, and environmental sustainability, and is managed by the National Center for Vegetation Cover (NCVC).

Located in the northern part of the Riyadh region, the North Riyadh Geopark covers an area of ​​3,221 km². It encompasses 20 unique geological sites that tell the story of Earth’s history, biodiversity, and the rich cultural heritage of the Arabian Peninsula.

The city of Thadiq, located within the geopark, was founded in 1079 AH (1669 CE). It is known as the “Mother of Cannons” for its pivotal role in the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud. Thadiq is a place of great historical and cultural significance, boasting numerous archaeological sites that distinguish this region's rich heritage.

About the Trip

Our journey begins with a joint trip from Riyadh to the reserve. Upon arrival, we'll embark on a light and accessible hike along the easy trail, perfect for contemplation and exploring the area's natural beauty while capturing memorable photos. After the hike, we'll rest and enjoy light refreshments and interactive activities, followed by an enriching session where we'll learn about the site's topography and its historical and cultural significance.

For photography enthusiasts, we've prepared a simplified photography workshop to enhance and develop skills, followed by open time for networking, discussion, and exchanging ideas. We'll conclude our enjoyable trip with a warm dinner for all participants before departing for Riyadh.

Trip Schedule

2:30 PM - Meeting time at Al Thaghr Plaza - Starbucks

3:00 PM - Departure for the Geopark

4:30 PM - Arrival at the site; start hiking (easy trail) and take photos.

6:00 PM - Return to the gathering and enjoy snacks and some interactive activities.

6:30 PM - Explanation of the site, its topography, and its cultural and historical significance.

7:00 PM - Simplified stars photography training program.

7:30 PM - Open time for discussion and introductions.

8:30 PM - Dinner.

9:30 PM - Departure for the return journey to the meeting point.

11:00 PM - Arrival at the meeting point.
