Among the sciences related to the science of Usul al-Fiqh is the science of Jadal (debate), which, as Muslim scholars see it, is among the highest sciences in value and the greatest in status, because it is the means to understand reasoning and to distinguish truth from falsehood. If the situation in debate had not been corrected, no proof would stand, no clear argument would be evident, and the correct from the flawed, and the straight from the crooked would not be known.
