- Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or a special type of chest pain called angina, including a rare form called Prinzmetal or variant angina.
- In patients with high blood pressure, the drug works by dilating blood vessels, so that blood passes through them more easily.
- In patients with angina, amlodipine works by improving blood flow to the heart muscle, which thus receives more oxygen to prevent chest pain.
