Royal Canin Diabetic is a food specially formulated to help manage blood sugar levels in cats with diabetes. A cat with diabetes either doesn't produce enough insulin or can't use it properly, resulting in high blood sugar levels. This can cause a number of health problems. Consuming a meal will raise blood glucose levels. In cats with diabetes, the goal is to keep levels within a safe range throughout the day. Maintaining a stable and ideal body weight is an important dietary approach. Royal Canin® Diabetic food is formulated with a low level of digestible carbohydrates and a high level of protein. The moderate fat content helps maintain a healthy body weight, while the rich antioxidants help maintain health and vitality. It is recommended for: Diabetes and Body Condition Score (BCS) 6/9; Diabetes and BCS 7/9, until blood sugar control is achieved. It is not recommended for: Growing cats, pregnant cats, or lactating cats. This food is complete and balanced and can be given long-term. A complete health check-up by a veterinarian should be performed every 6 months.

Nutrition Instructions

Feeding Instructions: Water should be available at all times. Batch number, manufacturer registration number, and expiry date: See information on the packaging. Store in a cool, dry place. This diet is recommended for all newly diagnosed cases of diabetes until clinical signs are controlled. Thereafter, dietary management should be guided by the Body State Score (BCS).* BSS 6 or lower: Continue the diabetic diet. BSS 7-8-9: Transition to satiety weight management. *The diabetic patient should be regularly assessed for co-morbidities. If necessary, dietary management should be reviewed. Note: Use of this food may affect the cat's insulin sensitivity. Monitoring blood glucose and insulin response is strongly recommended when starting or changing the diet so that the insulin dosage can be adjusted.
