Product description

Virbac Speed Duo FeLV/FIV for cats

Product Overview and Diagnostic Utility:

Speed Duo FeLV/FIV is a combined diagnostic test for the simultaneous detection of circulating Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) p27 antigens and anti-Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) antibodies in cats.

  • Target Species: Cats.
  • Sample Volume Efficiency: Requires only 2 drops of sample to test for both feline retroviruses.
  • Speed and Convenience: Quick and easy to use during routine consultations, providing reliable results in 15 minutes.
  • Early Detection: Testing for soluble FeLV viral antigens allows determination of retroviral status even in cases with low blood viral load, such as early infection, transient viremia, or sequestered infection.
  • Diagnostic Necessity: FeLV and FIV cause non-specific and highly variable symptoms, and the clinical disease phase is preceded by an asymptomatic period of varying duration. Biological testing is therefore essential for differential diagnosis.
  • Usage Restriction: For veterinary use only.

Indications for Use:

Regular screening to establish a cat's retroviral status is considered the primary strategy for managing and controlling FeLV and FIV transmission, with regional prevalence reported between 1 percent and 20 percent.

Screening with Speed Duo FeLV/FIV is recommended in the following clinical situations:

  • Suspected Retroviral Exposure: Cats with potential contact with infected animals, those residing in multi-cat environments, or prior to blood transfusions.
  • Preventive Protocol: Prior to initiating a first FeLV vaccination (or FIV vaccination where available) or before neutering procedures.
  • Medical History Gaps: Cats with an unknown or undocumented retroviral testing history.
  • Clinical Presentation: Sick cats presenting with non-specific or compatible retroviral symptoms.
  • Environment Management: Before introducing a new cat into a household or cattery, and as part of regular breeding health checks.
