The five love languages that children use by Gary Chapman, Russ Campbell ... The success of the book The Five Love Languages* was enjoyable. Millions of couples not only read the book but also applied its principles. My files are filled with letters from spouses around the world expressing their gratitude for the difference the book has made in their marital relationships, and many of them tell me that knowing their partner's primary love language has brought about a radical change in the emotional climate of their home, while some have credited the book itself with saving their marriage. This book emerged from many requests I received "to write a book about the five love languages for children." And because my profession has focused on strengthening marital relationships and providing counseling about them, I was initially hesitant to write about children, despite receiving hundreds of reports from parents who applied the concept of love languages to their children. When Northfield Publishing approached me about writing such a book, I contacted my old friend Russ Campbell to ask him to co-author the book with me. Fortunately, Russ agreed. Russ spent several years in psychiatry, focusing on the needs of children and adolescents, and I have always admired his work, benefited from his writings, and valued our personal communication over the years. Just as the original book about love languages helped many people in their relationships, I hope and pray that this book will help countless parents, teachers — and others who love working with children — become more effective in meeting children's emotional needs for love.
