Product description

Universal Matrix is an adaptable metal matrix band used for posterior dental restorations, especially Class II preparations. It is placed around the tooth to act as a temporary wall that contains composite or restorative material within the cavity. It helps the dentist rebuild the proximal wall and achieve an appropriate contour and contact with the adjacent tooth.

How to Use in Detail:

Select the appropriate matrix: The dentist selects the appropriate Universal Matrix Band according to the tooth size and cavity preparation so that it adequately covers the missing proximal wall.

Prepare the tooth: After caries removal and Class II cavity preparation, clean the cavity and establish appropriate isolation.

Contour the matrix: Gently contour the Matrix Band so that it better follows the natural contour of the tooth, particularly around the proximal area.

Position the matrix: Place the Universal Matrix Band around the tooth so that it covers the missing proximal wall and extends adequately toward the cervical area.

Secure the matrix: Stabilize the Matrix Band using a Matrix Retainer or the appropriate retention method for the matrix system.

Place the wedge: Insert a Wedge between the tooth being restored and the adjacent tooth from the cervical area. This helps stabilize the matrix, seal the gingival area, and reduce the risk of restorative material extrusion.

Check adaptation: Inspect the matrix from the cervical and proximal aspects and ensure that it adapts closely to the tooth without significant gaps.

Place the composite: Once the matrix is stable, place the composite incrementally into the cavity and build the proximal wall against the matrix.

Form the contact point: The pressure from the matrix and wedge helps create an appropriate proximal contour and contact point with the adjacent tooth.

Cure the composite: Light-cure the composite according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Remove the matrix: After completing the restoration and curing the composite, carefully remove the wedge, followed by the Matrix Band and Retainer.

Check and finish: Check the contact point, contour, margins, and occlusion. Remove any overhangs or excess composite and perform finishing and polishing when necessary.

How does the dentist benefit from it?

The Universal Matrix helps the dentist contain restorative material during Class II preparations, rebuild the proximal wall, and achieve appropriate contour and contact. It provides a simple and effective way to recreate a shape that closely resembles the natural tooth anatomy during restoration.
