How does teeth whitening gel work?
Stains on teeth can be classified into two types: external or internal. External stains appear on the surface of your teeth, while internal stains are between tiny cracks in the enamel and deep inside the dentin. Toothpaste and whitening rinses can remove some external stains, but only whitening gel can remove stubborn internal stains that make your teeth look deformed. The gel contains an active whitening agent (either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide) that penetrates the enamel to reach the internal pigment molecules. Oxygen molecules then react with the pigment molecules in your teeth, breaking the bonds that hold them inside the tooth. As oxygen molecules spread, the entire teeth whitening process occurs, resulting in a brighter, whiter smile.
