Product description

Overview

  • The GARIOX Flame Resistant Shirt Cat 2 is a light blue long-sleeve work shirt made from 88% cotton and 12% nylon, woven from fine-quality yarn treated with a permanent flame retardant finish, so the protection is part of the fabric itself. It carries an arc rating of ATPV 12 cal/cm² tested to ASTM F1959, which places it within NFPA 70E PPE Category 2, and it is certified for protection against heat and flame to EN ISO 11612:2015 (A1 A2 B1 C1 F1), for welding and allied processes to EN ISO 11611:2015 Class 1, and for flash fire to NFPA 2112, with a UL Listing. The cotton-rich blend keeps the shirt breathable through long shifts in the Saudi climate, while the nylon content adds strength to the fabric. Two chest pockets with button-down flaps keep pens and small tools secure, the button front closure and adjustable sleeve cuffs let the wearer close the shirt fully at the front and wrists, and pleats on the back give room to reach and lift. A button-down collar keeps the collar in place, an arc-rating label is sewn on the chest pocket for quick checks on site, the ergonomic cut gives a better fit, and all stress points are bar-tacked and reinforced for daily industrial use. The shirt is offered in sizes from S to 4XL. Available through Al-Najma Al-Wataniyah with guaranteed quality and fast delivery across Riyadh, Dammam, and all KSA regions.

Documentation & Standards

  • The GARIOX Cat 2 shirt brings several protection functions into one garment. Its ATPV of 12 cal/cm², measured with the ASTM F1959 arc test method, indicates the amount of thermal energy the fabric blocks, and places the shirt within NFPA 70E PPE Category 2 for energised work. EN ISO 11612:2015 certification confirms limited flame spread (A1, A2) and protection against convective (B1), radiant (C1) and contact (F1) heat, while EN ISO 11611:2015 Class 1 confirms resistance to small molten metal splashes and short contact with flame during welding. NFPA 2112 certification covers protection against short-duration flash fire, a common requirement on oil, gas and petrochemical sites, and the UL Listing shows that the garment is evaluated by an independent third party.
  • Additional reference standards for the Saudi market
  • EN ISO 11612:2015 — protective clothing against heat and flame; the certified performance codes are A1 A2 B1 C1 F1.
  • EN ISO 11611:2015 — protective clothing for welding and allied processes; Class 1 covers lower-hazard welding techniques.
  • ASTM F1959/F1959M — the standard test method used to determine the arc rating (ATPV) of the fabric.
  • NFPA 70E — the standard for electrical safety in the workplace that defines PPE Categories 1 to 4; Category 2 requires a minimum arc rating of 8 cal/cm².
  • NFPA 2112 — the standard on flame-resistant clothing for protection of industrial personnel against short-duration thermal exposures from fire.
  • ASTM F1506 / IEC 61482-2 — related performance specifications for arc-rated protective clothing, often cited alongside ASTM F1959 in electrical project specifications.
  • SASO / SABER — personal protective equipment entering the Saudi market is registered on the SABER platform against the applicable SASO technical regulation.

Industrial Applications

  • B2B Sectors — Detailed Engineering Use Case
Sector / ApplicationEngineering Use Case Details
Electrical utilities & substationsDaily-wear arc-rated layer for technicians on switching, testing and maintenance tasks classified as PPE Category 2, where an ATPV of 12 cal/cm² gives margin above the 8 cal/cm² minimum.
Oil, gas & petrochemical plantsNFPA 2112 flash fire protection for operators and maintenance crews in process areas, refineries and gas plants where flash fire is a recognised hazard.
Power generation & industrial maintenanceElectricians working on motor control centres, switchgear and distribution panels in power plants, desalination plants and factories.
Light welding & fabricationEN ISO 11611 Class 1 protection for fitters and welders on lower-hazard welding and cutting work with light spatter and low radiant heat.
Metal and manufacturing plantsEN ISO 11612 heat and flame protection for workers near furnaces, hot surfaces and open flame in process lines.
Contractors on major KSA projectsOne uniform garment that covers electrical, flash fire and light welding requirements across multi-trade crews, simplifying PPE procurement and stock.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Is a Cat 2 shirt with ATPV 12 cal/cm² suitable for NFPA 70E Category 2 tasks?

  • Yes. NFPA 70E PPE Category 2 requires arc-rated clothing with a minimum arc rating of 8 cal/cm². This shirt carries ATPV 12 cal/cm², above that minimum. Tasks classified as Category 3 or 4 need an arc flash suit system rated at 25 or 40 cal/cm².

Q2: Is the shirt alone enough for arc flash protection?

  • The shirt is the arc-rated upper-body layer. Category 2 work also calls for arc-rated trousers, an arc-rated face shield and balaclava or hood, a hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves and leather footwear. Any underlayer should be natural fibre such as cotton, never polyester or other meltable fabric.

Q3: Will the flame resistance wash out?

  • No. The yarn is treated with a permanent flame retardant finish. Wash the shirt following its care label and avoid bleach and fabric softener, which can leave flammable residues or damage the finish.

Q4: Can I use this shirt for welding?

  • Yes, for lower-hazard welding. EN ISO 11611 Class 1 covers techniques with light spatter and low radiant heat, such as gas welding, TIG welding and light MIG work. Heavy welding, overhead welding and work in confined spaces call for Class 2 garments or an additional leather apron.

Q5: Do you deliver across Saudi Arabia?

  • Yes. Al-Najma Al-Wataniyah delivers to Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Jubail, Yanbu and all regions of the Kingdom, with project supply available for contractors and industrial facilities.
