Product description

Overview

  • The tank capacity of a foam unit tells you nothing on its own — what matters in a fire is not the number of litres but the number of minutes. This unit makes that calculation explicit: a 100 litre tank delivers 19 minutes of operation at 5 kg/cm² with 3% induction, and only 6.5 minutes at 10 kg/cm² with 6% induction — the same tank, and a difference of three times over. The reason is that the inductor draws foam concentrate as a proportion of the water flow, so the higher the pressure the greater the flow and the greater the draw with it, and raising the induction rate from 3% to 6% doubles the consumption and therefore halves the time. The tank size is chosen, then, only after two numbers are known at the facility: the hydrant pressure at the point of use, and the induction rate the approved foam concentrate requires — not before. The unit runs directly on hydrant pressure with no pump, and its performance table starts at 5 kg/cm². Its construction centres on a fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) tank in yellow, and the choice of FRP here is functional rather than cosmetic: concentrated foam agents corrode metal tanks over long storage, whereas FRP is corrosion resistant and keeps the tank sound through the years of waiting that any firefighting appliance spends before it is ever used. The unit is light on two wheels with a push handle, which allows access into the narrow passages inside process units where a fire appliance cannot reach. It is equipped with a variable inline inductor of 0 to 6% in light alloy, rated 225 LPM at 7 kg/cm², a foam branch that is either FB2X low expansion or MX5 medium expansion, a stainless steel ball valve, and two Pyroprotect fire hoses of 64 mm × 15 metres with light alloy couplings: one connecting the inductor to the hydrant and the other connecting the inductor to the branch. It is available in capacities of 100, 150 and 200 litres, and the country of manufacture is India. Available from Al-Najma Al-Wataniyah Est. with a quality guarantee and fast supply to projects across the Kingdom in Riyadh, Dammam and all regions.

Documentation & Standards

  • In practice a foam unit is read from five elements: its tank material, the type of its inductor, the type of its branch, the materials exposed to the foam concentrate, and its hose system. Below is what each element of this item's specification means in practice for the buyer:
ElementWhat It Means in Practice
Corrosion resistant FRP tankConcentrated foam agents corrode metal tanks over long storage, and FRP keeps the tank sound through the years of waiting before use
Variable 0-6% inductorCovers both common induction rates, 3% and 6%, in one adjustment, so the unit serves whichever foam concentrate the facility has approved
225 LPM at 7 kg/cm²The nominal operating point of the inductor, which is what gets matched against the hydrant network capacity at the point of use
Low or medium expansion branchLow expansion gives a longer throw for attacking the surface of a burning liquid; medium expansion gives a greater foam volume for blanketing a spill and suppressing its vapour
Stainless steel ball valveThe flow control point is permanently exposed to foam concentrate, and stainless steel keeps it free of corrosion and sticking
Two hoses of 64 mm × 15 metresA length that gives a working reach of up to around 30 metres from the hydrant: one hose from hydrant to inductor and another from inductor to branch
Light alloy couplingsThey reduce the weight of the system on the operator and resist corrosion better than ferrous couplings
  • Additional reference standards for the Saudi market:
  • NFPA 11 (Standard for Low-, Medium- and High-Expansion Foam)
  • EN 1568 (specification for foam concentrates, in its four parts)
  • EN 13565 (fixed firefighting systems — foam systems and their components)
  • Saudi Civil Defence (the authority for approving firefighting equipment in the Kingdom)
  • For projects whose specification calls for a defined approval (such as UL or FM, or a certificate of conformity to a particular standard), our technical team will recommend the item that carries the required approval together with its certificate and attach it to the project file and the Civil Defence file.

Industrial Applications

  • B2B sectors — detailed engineering use:
Sector / ApplicationEngineering Use Detail
Oil refineries and fuel depotsRapid intervention on hydrocarbon liquid fires before the heavy firefighting crews arrive
Chemical and petrochemical plantsHigh-risk areas that need a foam capability standing at the source of the hazard rather than away from it
Vapour suppression of chemical spillsBlanketing the spill surface with foam to stop flammable vapour rising — suited to the medium expansion branch
Narrow passages inside process unitsA two-wheeled trolley reaches positions between columns and pumps that a fire appliance cannot
Loading bays and tanker filling areasPoints where spill and ignition possibilities recur, needing a unit close by with a short response time
Facilities with an existing hydrant networkThe unit runs directly on network pressure with no separate pump, so it adds to existing infrastructure at limited cost

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How many minutes does the unit actually run for?

  • That depends on two numbers, not on tank capacity alone. A 100 litre tank gives 19 minutes at 5 kg/cm² with 3% induction, and drops to 6.5 minutes at 10 kg/cm² with 6% induction. The reason is that the inductor draws foam concentrate as a proportion of the water flow: higher pressure raises the flow and so raises the consumption, and doubling the induction rate doubles the consumption and halves the time. The practical rule: establish your hydrant pressure and the required induction rate first, then read the time from the performance table, then choose the capacity that gives you the intervention time you need.

Q2: Who decides whether induction is 3% or 6%?

  • The foam concentrate you have approved, not the unit. Every concentrate comes with an induction rate designed for it, and this unit serves both because its inductor is variable from 0 to 6%. The practical effect of the choice falls directly on running time: 6% induction consumes twice what 3% consumes, so it gives half the time from the same tank — which must be taken into account when deciding the capacity required.

Q3: FB2X or MX5 — which branch do we order?

  • The decision follows the type of hazard, not a purchasing preference. FB2X is a low expansion branch giving denser foam and a longer throw, suited to attacking the surface of a burning liquid from a safe distance. MX5 is a medium expansion branch giving a greater foam volume from the same quantity, suited to blanketing a spill and suppressing its vapour and filling spaces. The branch required is specified on the purchase order, and our technical team is glad to review your hazard scenario before it is fixed.

Q4: Does the unit need a pump or a power source?

  • No. The unit runs directly on hydrant network pressure: a hose is connected from the hydrant to the inductor, and another from there to the branch, so the inductor draws the foam concentrate from the tank by the action of the water flow itself. The only condition is sufficient pressure at the point of use — and the performance table starts at 5 kg/cm². Measuring the actual pressure at the furthest hydrant the unit will be used from is recommended before deciding the capacity, rather than relying on the main pump pressure.

Q5: Do you deliver to Riyadh, Dammam and all regions of the Kingdom?

  • Yes — supply is available to every region of the Kingdom, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Jubail, Yanbu and all other regions, within 2-3 Business Days. For refinery and industrial facility projects, the B2B team reviews the hydrant network pressure and the approved foam concentrate type to recommend the right capacity and branch, and prepares the papers required for the Civil Defence file.
