Product description

Dear Librarians:

You can be proud of having a full reading room, but do you know who runs it? who are they? What bad strain? Then what are they doing here? Do they work? What do they work for? For whom? Do they have an employer or do you see them self-employed? Did they get urged to come or did they come of their own accord? Did they come for special motives? In this case, what are the motives? Is visiting the library sufficient for one to be considered a reader? How many readers are there in this hall? Should we call them readers? How do we recognize a reader when we catch a glimpse of one?

You will tell me: Books are not created by readers. This is true, the credit does not belong to us, and it does not belong to the library either. There were readers before the library opened, and they will inevitably remain after its demise. People used to read before books came out, and they will continue reading even after the last book comes out. The question is not whether they will continue to read, but what they will read, and how. Will they read books? How many of us will survive? And what is the fate of those who are expelled by the readers?
