Among the fields of knowledge that enriched Arab and Islamic civilization, the field of geographical writing was highlighted.
Because of its comprehensiveness, and because it has not received its fair share of efforts from researchers and scholars.
In this book, the encyclopedic geographer "Yaqut al-Hamawi" was chosen to shed light on his culture and thought and to examine his scientific approach, especially in his book "Mu'jam al-Buldan."
Many aspects of Yaqut al-Hamawi's encyclopedic culture were highlighted, perhaps two things unite them:
- First: They appeared in "Mu'jam al-Buldan."
- Second: They clearly indicate his extensive knowledge and his familiarity with many important sources, including geographical, historical, literary, grammatical, and other sources that he was able to obtain and benefit from.
This book contains three chapters:
- Chapter One: Yaqut al-Hamawi, the creative geographer, his life, upbringing, travels across countries, his writings, his scientific approach, and his encyclopedic culture.
- Chapter Two: A reading on historical writing at Yaqut through what he presented in his dictionary of news and events, a writing style that led some scholars to describe him as a historian.
- Chapter Three: A reading on what Yaqut included in his dictionary about "Arab days in the Age of Ignorance."
The book concludes with a summary that encapsulates the author's findings in the study.
