This book's idea embodies the essence of the translation process in both its linguistic and cultural aspects, as translation is a linguistic act just as it is a cultural act, since it is impossible to separate language, which is the main tool for expressing culture, from the domain that surrounds that language, including customs, values, visions, and beliefs. Language can soar to touch the sky in the hands of a skilled translator, but it can never, under any circumstances, detach from the culture that embraced it from the moment of its existence. Therefore, creativity in language and embodying culture are two inseparable twins.
The book in our hands (Translation between Language Manifestations and Cultural Effectiveness) includes fifteen scientific research papers in the field of translation, written in Arabic by researchers from various Arab universities. The idea of publishing a scientific book about translation in Arabic was based on keeping pace with rigorous academic writing in both content and terminology, as most recent studies in translation are published in English, whether by foreign or Arab authors.
The fifteen chapters in this volume address various topics, starting with general translation issues (the first five chapters), before moving on to study specific topics and cases in translation (the remaining ten chapters).
We hope that this research will benefit both students and practitioners of translation, as well as researchers in the field. In addition to the diverse and important theoretical issues raised by the chapters of this book, there is an abundance of translation data that clarifies and reinforces these issues through examples, explanations, and comments.
This approach is based on the firm belief that the smooth application of theoretical propositions is essential in an applied field at its core, such as translation. Theorization should be supported, not replaced, by practical application in the translation process.
